I typed Not Successful in to Google. I was hoping for something positive. Guess what I got?
That’s 60 reasons why I’m not successful. And I didn’t even say it was about me!
I guess that the moral here is that google isn’t intelligent, it’s just a search engine and it searches for just what you ask it to search for. I suppose that you knew that but still so many people turn to google in the same way that they used to turn to the doctor. Looking for answers.
There’s a phrase that my hynotherapy teacher often uses:
What the thinker thinks, the prover proves
It’s true of google and it’s true of us. If you ask google about being unsuccessful it helps you do just that, it doesn’t go looking for ways to make you less unsuccessful. But if that’s what you want you must search for that.
If you ask your mind why am I so unsuccessful then it does a similar literal thing, it shows you all the things that you’ve done that are poor and not successful, it finds all the reasons you’re looking for to support the thought that you are unsuccessful. That’s what you asked for, that’s what you get.
If you didn’t realise that was the way it worked then you now have a bit of a clue.
So here are a few things that might help.
When I say don’t think of a pink elephant? The pink elephant jumps right on in there. Your mind can’t do a don’t without doing the do first. It’s really simplistic like that.
Think about what you want to think about. If you want to wallow in the mire of bad memories then feel free. If you want to look for a way out then look for a way out. Try some of these:
- What strengths do I have
- What am I good at
- What am I doing when I feel good
- What achievements have I made
- How do I use these to change my life
- If money didn’t matter what would I spend my time doing
Google can’t help with these things, when it comes to being an expert in you then if you ask yourself the right questions then you can find your way.
As an example here, I have been working with people for public speaking quite a lot at the moment and there are some quite common things that turn up. Bearing in mind that we’re talking about people with good qualifications and salaries to match you would expect them to be confident. So many of them have the thought that they are a fraud and that someone will find them out soon and take it all away. It takes a short time to go through their lives and achievements to put them back in touch with the truth that everyone else knows and they don’t. They deserve their jobs and the success that they have attained.
The problem is that we can’t see it. Hence not successful.
Ask your spouse, a trusted friend, your parents, brothers and sisters. Find out about the person that they see as you.
